In AUSMAT, we learn a lot of things. One of the most valuable lessons that I have learnt thus far is perhaps the importance of knowing how to accept failures. One of my teachers told me last year that our society teaches a lot about how to handle success but nobody ever teaches another how to deal with failures. And the fact of the matter is that we fail more often than we succeed.
I think life is just like a massive steamboat dinner. (I just love food la, okay)
There are two ways to which you can handle a massive steamboat dinner.
Way number one is you stuff your face with all you can eat. Sometimes you succeed and you exit the dinner feeling absolutely satisfied. Sometimes, and this is the one with the higher probability, you get sick and throw up or you wake up the next day with diarrhoea. This is pressure – in the case of the steamboat, pressure on your rectum but in context with life, pressure in your head. The bottom line is, if you view life as a series of competition and indulge yourself in it, it may help you excel but only up a point before the pressure cracks.
The other, more sensible way is to eat through that dinner slowly. Eat what you can and stop when you can’t. Save some for tomorrow’s dinner. After all you always wake up with an empty stomach! Sure the work will still be there when you wake up (or in this case, the leftovers) but hey, you wake up every morning with newly charged energy to do ‘em!
Or if you’re faced with a deadline and needed to finish all the ingredients because tomorrow no cooking can be done, then you can always call the help of friends. The more the merrier for a massive steamboat dinner.
If you haven’t guessed already, this massive steamboat dinner really did happen. It happened on Thursday when we over-bought the ingredients but couldn’t keep for the next day because we were all going to go back to our hometowns. That said, we had no choice but to finish everything that night. The only problem was there were too much to eat so in the end we had to dupe some friends over to help us out. Haha!
Quote Kimberly: I’m looking at a bunch of rubbish bins sitting at the dining table.
LOL!
Thanks a lot to Kimberly, Joanne, Sophia, Ee Lyn, Wigo, Jui Yong and Siong Lung for helping to clear the massive steamboat dinner!! :D
When you can take it, you take it. When you can’t, well, that’s what friends are for. Tee hee. Even if it means making some ridiculous excuses!
Be wise. Choose the latter option. It always ends with a laugh. :)
Kim: Jui Yong!! You must come! Otherwise I’ll die! *staring at Michelle threatening to pour a large spoon of food into her bowl if she fails to ask Jui Yong to come* PLEAAASSSEEE!!!
