An Exciting Weekend

I have had the most exciting weekend of 2011 last Saturday and Sunday! :D

It all began with a free dinner at the opening of youth for the new year of 2011.

We planned for a trip to Meeples the following day and had a great time, partly due to the free food. Lunch was fried laksa at SS 14, followed by two rounds of Wasabi (for free!) at Meeples and another 2 hours of other games. Heh, I like Panic Tower. :D

We were supposed to pay RM 10 for that two hours but Jeanne applied for a membership card and got a RM 50 voucher which she used to pay for all of us. She so nice! And Kim treat us to Snowflakes afterwards and Yu Heng shared his free personal pizza from Pizza Hut courtesy of Maxis with all of us. And we sang plenty of Christmas songs on the way back because we walked. :)

But while that was fun, Sunday was even more adventurous. I watched the Proton Malaysian Open Finals at Bukit Jalil. I saw Lee Chong Wei and Taufik Hidayat live! I saw the China Olympic gold medallists for women's doubles, Wang and Yu. Even though they lost, the battle was awesome and interesting - at least far more interesting the women's singles before that!

Too bad that out of the many China teams, Lin Dan just had to forfeit. :(

And for the RM 45 premier seats that we paid for, we didn't end up in very strategic spots because we reached late (we had to travel you see). So Ee Lyne and I ended up sitting at the side. Michelle and Sheau Jiuan, for RM 45, stood for 5 hours straight at the centre while Yi Hui and Yeong Yeong moved to the RM 35 seats to catch the players as they come out from the back so that they could ask for autograph. Lol!

None of us got any autographs btw. SAD.

All we had from the match were a torn ticket, free inflated balloon like banging things and a fulfilled wish. :) Despite classes the following day we risked it all. Haha. Reached home at almost 11 p.m. Luckily I had no homework. Phew~!

T'was a good weekend to remember.

I took photos but they weren't clear and I forgot to bring my memory card adapter over. Shall upload more photos when I can get my hands on a camera. :)

Anyway, random jokes to end the day:

Texting with Olivia.

Me: Go to Orange for Lunch.

Olivia: Got physchology talk.

Me: You spelled it wrong!

Olivia: Sorry! It's psyhchology! I will surely improve my English!

Me: It's psychology! Haha!

Olivia: Okay! I will go home and write PSYCHOLOGY a hundred times!

LOL. In her defense, she had to text in the middle of a talk.

And during math,

Teacher: You have to improve your handwriting. You're writing like a doctor. But you're not going to be one, isn't it? So improve your handwriting!

Haha. But it wasn't me.

Anger management lesson

This morning Yeong Yeong told us something very funny. She said that if we ever get angry at her, we should openly show our anger so that she doesn't suffer a slow and painful mental torture, forever wondering if she had sparked a flicker of madness in us. She said we should either accidentally on purpose knock into her when she walks or give short annoyed answers when she asks any questions.

Then Yi Hui said that our allowances had been banked in and that a notice had been posted on our front door. But Yeong Yeong said that my name wasn't included because according to that alleged poster, I was banned due to an overwhelming amount of fines.

She lied.

So I accidentally on purpose knocked into her to tell her I am angry.

But she didn't take me seriously. =( And some more said that she was fragile. Lol.

Which reminded me of this one incident some time ago when the lights at the lift lobby was spoiled so our floor remained dark. And I was making a trip with Yeong Yeong. When she walked out into the darkness, she made ghost sounds and asked if I was scared. I tried giving her The Stare but it obviously didn't work because she continued woo-ing away anyways. After one minute, she gave a cry of fright because she saw a pair of legs at the flight of stairs at far end of the corridor where it was brightly lit.

It was a man descending the stairs btw.

So in her vain effort to scare me, she ended up scaring herself. LOL. Epic. :D

Night markets and shopping quicks

The first day of my second week back in college began with an orientation for the January intake AUSMAT people who aren't exactly our juniors because we are going to graduate at the same time. The July intakes had to be there to help out with some of the icebreaking games which included a Human Bingo task, a Remember My Name Or Else Be Called A Red Dot game, the Big Fish Small Fish competition, the Bring Me Ridiculous Stuff task and it ended with the Human Knot challenge.

Too bad the group that Katryne and I were in charged of wasn't consists of very hip people because we couldn't collect all the ridiculous items the teacher asked for. And it wasn't as though the items were rare jewels. They were things like jackets, dangling earrings and hair scrunchy which was an obvious scarcity in my group. So we lost. =(

But since there wasn't any class, we went back early and I took my maiden walk down the long lonely road between Sunway and Casa. The road seemed to be never ending, I swear. It took me 40 minutes to reach home. But later on, we visited Popular at Summit and there was a sale on for original VCDs so we bought Cold Mountain and Ang Lee's award winning production of Lust, Caution. Before you gasp in horror about the amount of detailed inappropriate scenes in Lust, Caution, remember this was an original VCD which meant that it had gone through the red tapes and is sufficiently censored leaving, in Anne of Green Gable's words, plenty of scope for imagination. =.=" Of course, it took half the fun away and the ending was just not satisfactory, plus the fact that Lee Hom's character was just blah.

Anyhoo, on Tuesday, I had my very first Chemistry class in the Chem lab and we got lost on the way while searching for the lab. And on Wednesday, which was the day before Thaipusam (which is a public holiday in Selangor), I went to Cheras night market with Kim, Joanne, Chee Zhen, Wigo, Ee Lyne, Pit Yung and Sophia.

Cheras night market is honestly one of the longest, if not actually the longest, night market in Malaysia. And it was crowded people mountain people sea! It took 2 hours just walking from one end to the other end, which meant we spent 4 hours walking to and fro the long stretch of road. We had tonnes to eat and we ate ourselves silly with the massive amount of choices. But the silliest part has got to be our journey there.

We were going to depart on a taxi. From Summit to Cheras, it shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes, without jam. But since it was 6.30 p.m. (peak hour in KL), the taxi wanted to charge us RM 45 and we thought it just wasn't worth a 20 minutes trip. Before we could gather round to make a second decision, Rapid KL bus number 63 arrived at the stop. That particular bus was our ticket to KL Sentral and everyone knows KL Sentral brings you to everywhere.

And thus without much ado, we boarded the bus despite all the uncertainty in our minds. After having paid RM 2.50 for bus ticket and seated down, we finally cleared our heads for a careful deliberation. Kim said that from KL Sentral we would still have to take the LRT and later change line and then do some hocus pocus along the way and that that trip shall cost about RM 10 and take an infinite amount of time.

*dooossshhh* <-- sound of buckets of water falling on our heads.

Which meant by cab, it would cost us RM 11.50 and we could reach in half an hour.

So after the bus had moved for 2 metres, we all got down.

We had just paid RM 2.50 for a two metres trip. -__-"

But that's that and we had a good time anyways. =)

On Thaipusam, I met up with Amanda and Elaine and we talked about school and Chinese New Year and Canada and floods and Australia. Elaine shops reeeeeaaaalllllyyyyyy loooooonnnnnnnngggggggggggggg. She was gone for half an hour and after that half an hour, she only came back with ONE skirt. Omg.

Thank God for shoe sections and their soft cushions!

And Amanda has short shopping span. She took hold of a skirt while waiting for Elaine and because Elaine shopped reeeeaaaaalllllyyyyy slooooowwww, she put the skirt aside and decided she wasn't going to get it anymore after 10 minutes. I peng.

A tip: If you want Amanda to buy something, anything, please make her pay within 10 minutes, or preferably within 5! (Lest she changes her mind and makes you walk the whole shopping mall only to come back to that very first shop!)

I have more or less concluded that shopping with Amanda and Elaine can be frustrating for some other poor soul but I just happen to be one of the very few, very rare and therefore very precious souls that does not feel much when I go shopping with them and their shopping quirks. :)

Alarming!

Omg. The fire alarm rang.

While I was in the shower.

And if that's not bad enough, after two minutes of ringing, my unit had a blackout.

Which meant I had to grope around in darkness for my clothes.

And my housemates mostly forgot I was in the shower except for Yi Hui. Lol!

I'm surprised my initial reaction wasn't to run out of my unit with a towel, but to actually wash off the soap in the dark and then getting dressed as proper as I could.

Which was a good thing too because it was false alarm!

I should end this on a brighter note to shed some light into this so-called dark ordeal.

The only brighter note I can think off now is the dinner trip to USJ Taipan with Siew Chee, Sandra, Sheau Jiuan and Ee Lyne for chilli pan mee. :D

I put too much chilli and cried throughout dinner. -___-"

Speak English - fail

Well, the speak English at all times rule has officially been abolished in less than 6 hours of its enactment yesterday. I honestly thought it would have lasted a day but fortunately, the rule enforcers, i.e. the "parents" of the unit, were the ones who got fined the most. Lol!

The punishment for every non English word that slipped was 10 cents. In less than 3 hours, we had RM 2.00 in our allocated treasury - a piggy bank from Campbell's Mushroom Soup. Haha.

Even Chinese random expressive words weren't allowed, including Michelle's favourite "ta ma de" and my "walao eh" and Yeong Yeong "celaka dia". What they did though were some magnificent translating.

"Walao eh" became "my husband ah!" according to Yeong's definition because it was "wa lao eh". iPeng. Hahaha!

And Michelle had to take a phone and loudly proclaim "mother!" to get her point across.

Meanwhile, us siblings just stick together and spoke Mandarin behind both their backs! Haha!

But it all proved to be extremely stressful. Pit Yung and Sheau Jiuan even resorted to hiding in their rooms so that they won't speak so much! Lol! So the rule was abolished before Yi Hui even got back from her trip down to KL that morning. But we didn't tell her about the abolition though, so she was kept in English mode for another 3 hours before we finally exposed the lie. =P

Anyway, today Pit Yung and Yi Hui after a short trip down to first floor brought back with them one of mankind's most abominable and detestable creations - the human weighing machine. Each of us took a turn and after some shocking revelations as to the amount of kilos we had gained over the past year, almost everyone were shaken into diet modes. Except Sheau Jiuan who even after standing on the scale, kept munching on Munchy's mini chocolate cookies. But then again, she didn't know how to read the scale right! Haha!

So we went down to P3 for yet another evening of exercise. Yesterday all of us (except Sheau Jiuan) went down and had a sort of running competition to see who could run two rounds around the carpark in the shortest time.

I won btw! :D

In the female, non-slippers category. Haha!

It was 2 minutes and 33.01 seconds. I beat Yeong Yeong by 0.03 seconds because her time was 2.33.04! :D

That was until we invited Benjamin to join along and he won with a time of just slightly over 2 minutes. But he wasn't in my self created category so that was okay. :D

Tomorrow is orientation again so that means... no classes! =)

Saturday morning in Casa

It's only been the first week back and I have already had chicken rice at White and watched two movies at GSC Summit and ate Subway for dinner. Those are the better albeit rather guilty parts of the week. The more unfortunate part came in the form of first floor delivery of their famed nasi goreng. I bet they miss having SMS from my unit.

We were their very loyal clients last year, constantly piling up orders to reach the RM 15 mark so that we could get their free drinks although frankly I couldn't understand why they offer free drinks for delivery and not dine-in, considering they spend more on the plastics and wrappings and an equal amount of effort to prepare the food, not to mention the extra energy of carrying the foods to the elevator and walking to our unit door and then ringing the bell. Unless, of course, they consider the effort of cleaning dishes more tiring than the extra costs of drinks and of plastics, which in my opinion is just highly unlikely.

But enough of that analysis. It's the dawn of the new semester and teachers are becoming stricter as I type. We've already been ordered to purchase relatively expensive (for us kiam siap people anyways), brand new, non-photostated (the teachers are mindful of copyright) WACE Study Guide books for two subjects. I tried to go around the system by buying second hand non-pen written books from seniors. Heh! So I shall receive the goods on Monday and I really hope that the pencil marks will not be too difficult to erase! Other than that, I have saved my parents about 100 bucks and I am extremely proud of myself for that. :D

Apart from Math and its test next week for which I have absolutely no idea how to study for, nothing much has started in class. I have a feeling that most of the teachers do not remember my name. Haha. So much for my lip pointing. My Economics teacher remembers my name though but Economics has not been a very popular subject among my comrades. Many have dropped it for the sciences even though none of us will major in any science degree. I guess we are all just mindful of the eventual results that we might get from the scaling.

Speaking of eventual results, I suppose it must be quite certain now that ANU is no longer applicable for me. That piece of heart wrenching news really would have plunged me into the depths of despair yesterday had not for the detour to GSC to watch Great Day. And having watched that and read Anne of Green Gables (which in my opinion is one of the very few literature works that are not disturbing - even though Miss Susie says it's the disturbing ones that stir the mind, I do not think so because disturbing is just disturbing for me), I suppose Monash shouldn't be too bad. It kind of settles the dilemma anyway because I wondered at some point if when the time comes, I might be divided between a choice for university life in a more quiet town of Canberra or in Melbourne where a lot of my hometown friends will end up in.

This is a very long piece of rambling but I shall just finish by saying that I have purchased my new year clothes for very reasonable prices from Sunway Pyramid. I have also posted a big countdown to my birthday on Facebook but some things just don't change with some friends. Amanda has been spreading propaganda to all of them, trying to make them remove tag. Fortunately, her influence is not as great as she thinks! Hah!

Quote Maxine:

And THIS, is why your tiles couldn't accept Amanda as your "best friend". Have faith in your tiles, Lip Yi!

That was referring to when my mahjong tiles collapsed at the thought of Amanda having a best friend and a cousin! And that a conspiracy might exist between us to deliberately make Maxine lose in all her games in Damai! Haha.

It's a Saturday morning in Casa and the same problem arises as with all weekends in Casa. My housemates are currently in deep discussion of what to take for lunch. Lol! They have also imposed a rule of speaking English at all times. Haha. Let's hope that goes well! =)

What cancalled classes cause me to do

... in the college library. I'm starting to feel I lack a life in college. I've been to Sunway Pyramid two days in a row!

And thus another day begins with a cancelled class. No wait. Correction. TWO cancelled classes. I am angery because I woke up at 6.30 a.m. again today! And slept at 10 p.m. last night! Honestly I feel quite like an extremely "kuai" secondary school kid. =)

Speaking of which, I have successfully bought half of my CNY clothes during the break yesterday! :D

Truthfully this year's college began slightly better than last's. Even though I'm not quite sure about what the future holds, what ATAR I'm going to get, whether ANU is still in the list of universities that I can apply for, I shan't fret. I shall clasp my hands together and thank God for these small cancelled classes and oh... a math quiz that contributes 5% to the end of the year next Wednesday. Man, what a news to get on my FIRST class of the year!

Yesterday we had a college tour for the junior AUSMATians. I was one of the volunteers but Jui Yong and I were very efficient. We just stood in the centre of it all and pointed out the directions. We are extremely clever people you see. =D

As you can probably tell, I still have my new year excitement. It has been occasionally dampened but I've survived, And it's only 96 days to only THE GREATEST DAY OF THE YEAR!

Please remember. =)

More random ramblings

My results are back now. They're not exactly tahi lembu jantan but they're not that great either. Oh wells. Guess there must always be room for improvement. :D

Anyway yesterday was my first day back in college and I was feeling really excited. I went jogging yesterday evening. That's how high my adrenaline was yesterday.

It's day 11 of the year and classes have yet to begin. Well, not really. I woke up early today for an 8.30 a.m. class but waited until 9.00 a.m. with my classmates only to find out that class was cancelled. That was kinda crappy. All that waking up early for nothing. Gah.

So after the meeting later for some games orientation thing, I shall be off to shop for some new year clothes. =)

First rambling of the year

The things I did before I leave for a new semester include two karaoke sessions at K Box and plenty of breakfasts, lunches and dinners.

That last karaoke session had us standing on the cushions, apparently drunk on the high sugar content of mango juice. At one point, we spot a lady standing right outside of our door staring, possibly through the tinted glass at this bunch of crazy people singing out of tune while failing horribly to dance on the couch. I suppose that was quite fun.

Francoise also came to my house that night and in the dark, she mistakenly called out "Hi Uncle!" to my brother. Haha! Then we spent a good hour discussing how to not gain anymore weight. She explained that if we skip meals, we tend to get cravings. I said I don't get chocolate cravings. Two seconds later, I told her about how I was addicted to Rocky during my last exam period. She asked what is Rocky. I couldn't believe she didn't know but oh wells, I introduced Rocky to her anyways: sticks covered in... chocolate.

She just stared. But her eyes were sending out high frequencies of "And you said you don't get chocolate cravings huh!"

Which led me to remember all the Cadbury Boost I fed on while studying.

Dang!

I always thought I'm fairly immune to chocolate!

Anyways, I'm back in Selangor now. Some of my coursemates have got their results posted to their homes. Since I live across the great big South China Sea, I doubt that post will reach any time soon as even those across the not so great and big straits separating the Penang Island and the mainland haven't got theirs. Sigh.

Mail. Y u cannot grow wings and fly?

2011

First of all, Happy New Year!

Even though it rained throughout the night of 31st Dec 2010 to 1st Jan 2011, I like to think I had a good start to the year.

I celebrated the coming of 2011 at Basaga with some pretty cool company. Plus I had Irish beer with French fries. And we watched the fireworks through a small parting between the branches of an enormous tree!

But hey, it was raining so at least fireworks wasn't cancelled!

We didn't have a uniform watch so we ended up wishing each other Happy New Year again and again until everyone's phone had touched 12.00 a.m. =)

At 11.50 p.m. on the night of 31st Dec,

Maryann: Think we should call Manda to get down here?
Me: Nah. Don't think she'll make it. She'll only reach next year.

:D

Anyway, we went to Delizze for dinner last night.

Saya sedang tunggu kamu selamat. Please come quick quick!

Maxine's reply:

Baik. Saya on the way. For real this time. Will see you in less than 30 mins.

She arrived about 10 minutes later but by the time she reached, 7 out of 8 seats were already filled. Haha.
